If you are planning to travel to Nepal, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of your arrival in the country. This is to ensure that travellers have a valid passport throughout the duration of their stay. 

Handwritten or manual passports are not accepted for entry into the country. This means that if your passport was issued before 2001 and is a handwritten or manual passport, it will not be valid for travel to Nepal. 

The following are some of the important legal provisions related to immigration in Nepal:

1.Immigration Act, 2049 (1992): This is the primary law governing immigration in Nepal. It provides for the regulation of the entry, exit, and stay of foreigners in the country, as well as the issuance of visas and work permits.

2.Immigration Rules, 2055 (1999): These rules set out the procedures for the implementation of the Immigration Act, including the requirements for different types of visas, work permits, and residence permits.

1. Immigration Procedure, 2065 (2008): This procedure is a set of regulations governing the entry and exit of foreigners from Nepal.

4.Labor Act, 2074 (2017): This act regulates the employment of foreigners in Nepal, including the conditions for obtaining work permits and the rights and obligations of foreign workers.

These legal provisions provide the framework for the regulation of immigration in Nepal and are important for both foreigners and Nepalese citizens to be aware of.

In addition to the immigration laws, every alien must comply with the following conditions and conduct:-

• Foreigners must possess a valid visa or permit for their stay in Nepal. They should ensure that their visa is up to date and abide by the terms and conditions associated with their specific visa category.
• Foreigners must respect and comply with the laws, rules, and regulations of Nepal. This includes following traffic laws, respecting public order, refraining from engaging in illegal activities, and cooperating with law enforcement authorities when required. They have to avoid possessing, using, or engaging in any forbidden behaviour as defined by law.
• Foreigners should respect and contribute to environmental conservation efforts by not littering, abiding by trekking and wildlife regulations, and participating in sustainable tourism practices.

Indian citizens must submit a No Objection Certificate issued by the Indian Embassy to travel from Nepal to a third country.

Indian citizens can enter Nepal using a valid passport. They do not need a visa to enter Nepal. Indian citizens who do not have a passport can also enter Nepal with a voter card. Indian minors who do not have a passport can obtain permission to enter Nepal through a birth registration certificate. Apart from this, Indian citizens are not allowed to enter Nepal from other documents. All Indian citizens who wish to enter Nepal are encouraged to travel with a passport for quick arrival approval.
